I know I would gladly trade to Russia both President Biden and Sec. of State Blinken and throw in Nato's Jens Stoltenberg for good measure in exchange for President Putin and FM Lavrov .. . but I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy.
At this point, Russia is not my enemy. .. notwithstanding the relentless U.S./Nato/Zelensky's mad declarations to the contrary. They don't speak for me.
If the 'objective laws of the universe' are based upon rational argument and moral authority, then we all have something different in common. .. and America must choose the next best thing:
Snowden for President 2024 'From Russia With Love' .. . and there will be the peace.
*FM Lavrov recently expounded upon these ideas enshrined in the UN charter - sovereign equality among the world's nation-states and the right of self-determination among its peoples.
"WHEN in the Course of human Events, it becomes necessary for one People to dissolve the Political Bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the Powers of the Earth, the separate and equal Station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them, a decent Respect to the Opinions of Mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the Separation." ~ Declaration of Independence, United States of America
I don't know how it is exactly in New York, never having studied US Law, but in Australia charges are not dismissed after serving a probation period.
Probation is a period of tracked good behaviour after a persons release from a custodial sentence after being convicted in a crown criminal court.
Charges are dismissed because they were either proven to be baseless due to lack of evidence or due to an infringement of law by police or prosecutors failure to follow proper procedures and protocols prejudicing a defendant and impeding a fair trial.
As New York State was a British colony I'm pretty sure it inherited the same basic principles of English Common and Criminal Law as here in New South Wales.
The boy had his earlier charges dismissed by a criminal court so is innocent of them in the eyes of the law, and the boy is appealing the latter set of charges to clear his name.
As both earlier and latter charges involved undercover police on adult websites and involved no other human beings apart from Mr Ritter, or any other material, complaints or witnesses, the boys problem is clearing his name through the courts. I wish him the best in this endeavour and that he is adequately compensated for his wrongful conviction, incarceration and financial expenses incurred in fighting his conviction and appeal.
OK. I feel I have to quote this "Adult Chat Room".
I don't see how you can get, "a man in his late forties seeking out 15 or 16 year old girls for sex ?" out of a man taking part in an adult chat room where 15 or 16 year old girls are banned. Now I've never been in an adult chat room but I'm pretty sure you have to sign off on being an adult when you sign up to take part in one. Reasonably one would then not reasonably expect under aged girls to be taking part in one so their is no demonstrable intent on the part of Mr Ritter in relation to "seeking out 15 or 16 year old girls for sex ?" It was an adult chat room.
This being the case the police officers pretending to be "15 or 16 year old girls" as those exact police officer admit to being, it is reasonable to assume Mr Ritter was specifically targeted for this "sting operation" despite there being no pre-existing complaints, allegations or convictions of Mr Ritter committing similar actions.
Therefore there had to be an ulterior motive for these police officers targeting Mr Ritter in such a "sting operation".
Mr Ritter, not being an idiot, probably realised this.
No crime committed, no victim, no intent, no proved motive the case should of been dismissed.
Right. I went to a Catholic boys school were several of my friends were sexually abused by one brother and a lay teacher and was lucky to escape probable grooming myself. I've seen these now grown men cry telling me of their victimisation. So it's not like I'm particularly fond of paedophiles and subscribe to Paedophile Monthly in order to seek out and defend paedophiles. So don't go trying to use the "emotional blackmail card" and pure speculative "what if's" that legally are rightly discarded.
There is no indication of Mr Ritter ... including in the court notes you linked too ... demonstrating any such behaviour or having committed any crime considering his defence.
I would of given those officers enough rope to hang themselves myself, which should all things being reasonable, of been the case having abused their investigative powers to specifically target someone for what can reasonably be believed to be political reasons, not because he was suspected of any illegal activity.
Now notice the repeated use of "reasonable" and "reasonably" above. That is because my first week of law classes "What is reasonably expected of a reasonable person under reasonable circumstances" was drilled into us.
In view of the available evidence the courts were unreasonable in convicting Mr Ritter with out proving intent and motive, any existing complaint and the pretty obvious lack of means to do so on an adult chat site, which I assume is the basis of his appeal.
Quite frankly, for whatever reason, you yourself are not being "reasonable" when viewing this and your total misunderstanding of "parole" and charges being "dismissed" demonstrates you do not understand the legal processes and concepts involved in order to understand the legal aspects in order to be "reasonable".
Fact Check: How many fact checkers does it take to check a fact?
The fact is I've already checked it out. Long ago. It popped up on every search I've ever done for Scott Ritter - the UN Weapons Inspector who tried to stop the Iraq war and the ongoing madness in Ukraine.
Hopefully, there are no 'underage teenage girls' around here, Emily!

Without passing judgment on anything else, one way or another, that the movie was basically character assassination with artistic license was entirely intentional.
Let me just ask you a question. I see you are on the Chris Hedges site and in the past I saw him speak in person on various issues and became a fan. Later on he came across like a political zealot on certain issues which turned me off. At times I didn't even agree with what he had to say. How is he on this site? I'm conflicted about him now, and at one time a big fan. So it goes.
Just wondering if you are comfortable with his political posts, or do you find him over the top? Sometimes he's come across like an evangelical minister.
Chris Hedges IS an ordained minister as anyone who says they have followed him would know. But I find his views largely agree with mine on important subjects, like war, evangelical fascism, the rotten American empire, and support for the release of Julian Assange. Have you read his books?
You know Zaremba, yeah he's an ordained minister, I saw him a number of times in person, and he even spoke at my congregation. I don't tell people who they should and shouldn't watch. Be my guest, watch him all you want.
Hi Fran, I too subscribe to Hedges stack. Like you (I gather) he often rubs me the wrong way somehow. But at the same time, I have to say, with his passion, his experience, and putting his money where his mouth is (teaching in prison, speaking out on behalf of everyday Americans, speaking Arabic and engaging with the Middle East), he is the real deal. (And yet he often still rubs me the wrong way.)
Can I ask you what about him that rubs you the wrong way? I thought I would join, but wasn't sure. I've seen him in person several times in the distant past, and he was fine, but in more recent times he almost sounds evangelical. I feel I'm being preached to. Do you find that?
It's hard to put a finger on. I don't find him evangelical in the religious sense: despite being an ordained minister he never seems to push his faith on his listeners. (Which I applaud. Neither does he come across as exclusionary: I get the feeling he respects people of other faith (Muslim's etc.) as being just as sincere in their beliefs as he is in his.)
I think it's more a problem of how often he interjects himself and his own experiences into any conversation. Like "I was there in Iraq when...", "I saw this firsthand...", "I wrote about this in my book...". All of which are true, and the impulse to relate things back to your own direct experience is perfectly understandable, (and a little self-promotion in service of making a living as an independent journalist is probably unavoidable) so I don't know why it should bother me, but somehow it does.
On balance though, I do find him an interesting, perceptive voice, speaking up clearly on many of the important issues that are often largely ignored, or swept under the carpet (the dysfunctional justice/prison system, the plight of the ordinary American worker, the corruption, selfishness and indifference to suffering of the "elites" around the world, and so on. We all have only so much time and money to spend on this kind of thing, but so far Chris still earns some of both of mine.
Then you are making a huge mistake. Hedges has taught me a lot and I already knew a lot about politics and history, having studied both all of my life. The one I have stopped listening to is Glenn Greenwald.
Sometimes Scott rubs me up the wrong way. That's just myself and him being human beings and mostly human beings can rarely agree on what to have for dinner let alone on social issues. All part of life. He is still an absolute gem of information, someone I consider courageous and respect. I also feel exactly the same way about Mr Hedges though at times he rubs me up the wrong way.
I remember an article he wrote on Information Clearing House years ago about the Poles and their complicity with the Nazi's in killing Jews, well some no doubt were, but most were not. Hedges in this article vilified the Polish people, all bad, black and white and left out the fact that many put their own lives at risk in protecting Jews. Germany saw the Poles as inferior, and many Poles died in Hitler's camps, some 1 and a half million. Hitler saw the Polish people in the same way he saw the Jews and planned to deport most after the war then keep a percentage of them around to become slaves. Hedges never mentioned any of that. Sometimes his assessments are just too black and white for me, and there is an arrogance about him and he's moved to extremes in many of his perceptions. There I said it.
I, on the other hand, find myself really interested in Scott Ritter. He has taught me a lot and he knows what he is talking about when he explains military tactics, weapons, etc. If you can't handle the truth, better go back to CNN.
While you may have thought the Cage question was for a laugh, I'm glad you asked it. One more example of the sway Hollywood has over the way the world thinks. It turns fantasy into reality.
I watched this interview, Scott! You have done amazing work. I've seen quite a few Victor's interviews but yours is definitely stands out.
In previous comments to your articles I wrote that you are the man of incredible courage with a very big heart. And will not get tired to repeat: GOD BLESS YOU!
Victor and Scott, thanks so much for this interview. I agree America is getting eaten out from the inside and from the outside. It is only our Constitution, a few determined citizens and even politicians that have slowed the descent into tyranny to the level you observe in UK and all the “Commonwealth” countries and Western Europe. There is a comeuppance, due process for criminals ... even the wealthy ... and rebuilding of institutions to prevent the collapse of Constitutional governance we have struggled with for the last 3 years. I get solicitations daily from police, veterans, Native American children, food banks while we are sending $Bs in weapons and materiel to the Kiev government. This inexcusable situation has persisted because of the corrupt mainstream press and the breach of separation of powers whereby our passive aggressive DOJ in lockstep with Biden sat back as our militarized public health agencies EXTERMINATED more than 1M American with illegal hospital protocols and worthless shots that kill as they funnel $Ts in wealth to the medical/pharmaceutical industries. If we have been too hobbled to take to the streets over Ukraine it is partly poor information and obfuscation delivered to the public. Why the Eastern regions had a referendum declaring autonomy, but that was somehow not good enough for the Nazi contingent of Ukraine society, resulting in the murder of Donbas citizens by the Ukraine military over 8 years, is a story revolting to Americans. But the story has been corrupted by the press and government just as the entire pandemic response was corrupt and fake to gratify political and financial interests. And Americans paid with their lives en mass. For what it is worth I grieve for your ordeal and hope your story can at least help us to de-politicize our justice system. It is certainly book worthy and hope you will write one. I’ll pre-order and attend your signing tour! Whether you can be successful reversing your conviction and obtaining compensation I don’t know, but I believe the winds are changing. I read Evenings Near the Village of Dikanka many years ago and cannot believe the locations familiar to me from Gogol’s stories are ravaged by war today. His description of a summer day in Ukraine is one of the most beautiful passages in literature. To read it in the original would be a wonderful thing. One last point. Lincoln and Alexander ll were in touch regarding US-Russia cooperation. The transcontinental railroads...American and Siberian ... were built with Pennsylvania steel to eventually meet up at the Bering Straits. This was a threat to Britain’s maritime dominance of trade. Lincoln for sure and Alexander, I believe, were eliminated by City of London intelligences services. The same forces are still in operation today and in the Ukraine. If we survive the next few years I believe cooperation between Russia and America will still come to pass. Good luck!
For me it is unbelievable to have sat in school as teenager, listening to our teacher about the evil Soviet Unition and Stalin's show trails to jail political opponents etc.. And then you grow up and see what the US, the beakon of freedom, is doing to people like Viktor, Assange, Snowden, Kiriakou and also Scott of course and quite likely many I do not even know of...
The people Stalin murdered after his show trials were Bolsheviks. Stalin got rid of all of the revolutionaries so he could pretend he was a big shot in the revolution when he was just a minor functionary. He stuffed Lenin in a box and proceeded to betray everything Lenin stood for.
According to the movie 'Lord of War' .. . chance leads Yuri Orlov to discover his one talent - illegal arms dealings.
With his brother's help (working out of little Odessa in Brooklyn N.Y. USA), he reaches the top of his of his trade, supplying anyone whose check clears. His skills and quick wits bring him everything he's ever wanted, and help him elude a persistent Interpol/Agent.
In the end, the distinction between legal arms dealers and/or illegal arms dealers blurred to a point of vanishing returns. Yuri never spent a day in jail. .. and is probably somewhere selling surplus Javelin missiles for a dime/doz. today.
