Russia could score even more points than it has recently around the globe by offering to exchange Evan for Julian Assange. Fair minded people everywhere already know the persecution of Assange is an assault on justice.

There is no evidence that Assange ever worked with Russia, infact the opposite is what is known. There is no evidence the Russian oligarchy has any love for Assange. Leave the russiagating to Hilliary Clinton.

I don't sense that the commenter is suggesting any connection between Assange and Russia. I think he's just looking for a way for Assange to be freed before he dies in prison. It's possible that Assange would not even accept such help from Russia, even at this critical time for his survival. But many of us are wishing for any possible way to get him out of that dungeon where he is by all accounts rapidly wasting away.

And I think the commenter is saying that, if Russia were to make such an exchange, most of the world would see this as a righteous gesture on behalf of protecting truth-tellers, and not an acknowledgment of some kind of collaboration.

Russia has as much affection for investigative journalists as the U.S. , there are no good guys to be had, the current government there has no problem w what is being done to Assange. Wikileaks has reported facts no matter where they come from. I don't care what the motivation is for the comment, it gives fuel to the blueannon fantasy that Assange is at the least a patsy for Russian manipulation. Also, Scott Ritter has said many times he is not pro Russian government and that he also wants to point to the ugly truth wherever it is.

The Russian government does have a problem with how Assange is being abused.

Dec. 10, 2021 - Russia Calls UK Decision to Allow Assange Extradition ‘Shameful’

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova denounced as “shameful” a London court’s decision that will allow the extradition of WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange to the United States.

"If there is a democracy, it must be a real one. Why did they jail Mr. Assange? Is that democracy?" Russian President Vladimir Putin said shortly after Assange’s arrest in London in 2010.

Not sure Russian leadership has 'no problem' with what's being done to Assange. Iirc, both Putin and Lavrov have spoken, tangentially, about it. .. but don't quote me.

I understand Russia has no obligations, or even motivation, to 'trade' who they claim is a U.S. spy for the freedom of Assange .. . but I think it would be a 'feather in their cap'*.

*in terms of Public Relations .. . especially in the U.S.

I understand fully what you're saying. I was simply pointing out that the original commenter was not drawing any connection between Assange and Russia. The accusation of his "russiagating" was a misreading of his comment. He was simply expressing a wish for Assange to be freed. That's all.

Such a typical ad hominem from some guy adding very little to the conversation except confirming that many might have little in the way of deductive reasoning skills.

Moral of the story for journalists working in Russia: Don't do anything that could possibly be construed as spying. Do your job to research and report on news stories, nothing more. It's the big ego some have that leads them into these complicated and potentially criminal situations.

Evan may not be as valuable as Julian for an exchange at the moment. Let's see how US MSM reports on Evan and his importance which will reveal his level of value to the US Gov.
