Yes, well, it is ironic that, if you succeed in your goal of achieving peace, you will become less relevant. However, something tells me that the world will remain in need of decent, truthful analysis ... and that the world has not heard the last of Mr Scott Ritter ...
Scott, outstanding article. It feels like I was in room with you myself drinking those shots of vodka. You are great man and warrior for peace and hence there will be always a need for man like you in our world. God bless you.
Scott, these stories of your peacemaking ventures and your cameraderie with your Russian hosts bring a feeling of hope during these troubling times in our own nation. It's good for us to be connected with peoples of other nations...Thank you!
It was July 24 1959...Nixon went to Moscow to visit the "American products exhibition" in Moscow, and to talk with Khrushchev...and talk they did, quite frankly too, with the cameras rolling, nothing staged...a remarkable achievement in the middle of the cold war...the full transcript of their talk is in the NYT archives, 7-25-59...and kudos to Scott and Garland for all their tireless work...
Profound gratitude to Scott Ritter for leading and guiding us through these horrible times. Thank you so much for your courage, integrity and commitment which have been so inspiring. What a beautiful article, three years celebrating the Defender of the Fatherland at the Russian Embassy! Bravo, Sir! Do not belittle your achievements, I personally am looking forward to you continuing to fulfill that worthy task of reining in the destructive behavior of mankind. Onward! Forward! Urrah!
There is hardly a language of peace as there is for war. Veterans--sons, fathers, husbands, and the like--are celebrated around the world as heroes and defenders of the fatherland, motherland, or homeland in their own countries, and at the same time vilified as enemies of former, historical, or present opponent countries. The same goes for each person's government, country, leaders, and so forth. And many countries are or have been at war with many other countries. For humanity has far more experience with war and conflict than with peace.
Our languages have been used for describing and fomenting war. And war is far more noble for us than for them. Peace talk has been mostly window-dressing, and has only been effective in stopping "this" war, not for ending warfare. When representatives talk of eliminating specific weapons, they always hold their own weapons behind their backs, never intending to give them up. Treaties are always written in Orwellian Newspeak, the terminology and syntax meaning only what they mean to each party.
In no language are the terms defined in plain language in the documents themselves, i.e. Peace, for purposes of this document shall mean "the absence of hostility as acts of war, exchange of goods, sharing of resources, and in all dealings with each other. From this day forward all persons covered will be as brothers."
Scott, You are not a pacifist, but a peace activist. Nor are you one to "tilt at windmills." Bravo and thank you for your contributions to maintaining dialogs that served to advance the opportunity for peace to be achieved.
