Thanks for a lovely story. when I was a little kid, I watched my mom buy food for people who didn't have enough money at the checkout. The fence at our house was marked by hobos who would come up from the railroad tracks and, by the mark, would know my mom would give them food. She was the kindest person I have ever known. One day I walked with her in the neighborhood to collect money for a cancer drive. Neighbor after neighbor told me of the times mom had helped them. She was my hero and taught me, by example, how to care for strangers.

I operate on this attitude every day. The most important thing you said- is it truly “feels really good”. But you don’t do these things for recognition…. you do them because it makes the world a better place. I’ll be in touch on Sunday. You’re a great man Ritter. Took me a long time to believe you weren’t somehow tied to something… but that’s because of my experiences, i’m exponentially paranoid. You’re doing really important work, and conversations like this are so important. KEEP GOING SIR 🙏

GREAT post today Scott. Agree with you 110 percent. We are only on this planet for a short time. There is so much that we can't control. But there is also so much that we can. Kindness, empathy, and compassion can change the world for the better.

Beautiful story, loved it as we were in a similar situation and kind people helped us out and we have Paid it forward many times. We live in Northern Idaho and have found that the people here have that mantra. Would not live anywhere else.

Look-up the term, “The Fourth Turning” — if we survive this, a sense of community, is coming back !

Beautiful message, Scott. And perfect timing. I'm in the midst of contemplating good and evil and whether humans overall are good or evil. I think we're a combination. Some are more good than bad. Some are truly demonic. You are one of the good ones. Like many people, I suspect, I've been grieving over the revelations from the released Epstein files (which confirmed what I had already believed to be the case). And I've started down some rabbit holes by reading and listening to accounts from victims of SRA, trafficking, abuse, and so on. Very dark stuff. Combine that with the never ending wars and assassinations waged by my country and its nefarious players against other countries and peoples, and I'm feeling pretty demoralized. I'm also in the middle of reading The Devil's Chessboard, by David Talbot, about the Dulles brothers, the CIA, and all the rotten things done by this country and other imperial Western powers (such as Belgium in the Congo and the murder of Patrice Lumumba). It's a growing awakening that's really hard to handle. So I was sitting outside getting some sunshine, trying to figure out why we humans are here and what is our purpose. I came inside and listened to your rant, and it cheered me up. Yes, there are good people, and now more than ever, we need to follow your suggestion and show kindness, compassion and respect whenever we can. It's the only way we can win against the dark forces.

Thank you for this beautiful story about road angels. Never underestimate the immense power behind the kindness of strangers!

A couple years ago in May I (at age 73) was on a solo road trip driving through a forested area of remote eastern Oregon when I had a flat tire, I mean completely flat. No cell service and no other traffic. Me knowing I'm never gonna manage to change this tire in my own. So I had to deal with it the old fashioned way.

Eventually one car drove by ignoring me, but I managed to flag down the second car that came and the driver stopped. A woman my age returning home to Idaho from visiting her sister in Oregon. She gave me a lift 20 miles (backtracking for her) to the nearest town where I found help. Turns out she and I have the same first name. A road angel!! Made my day. I appreciate your undying fidelity to humanity, Scott
