When a journalist of any age or political stripe allows his personal animosity to over ride the facts of a given situation or circumstance, such that the journalist makes up quotes and other information, then they cease to be believable. Sadly Mr. Hersh has declined into one of those that he used to deride. He is an old man with less access to sources, the pentagon is drying up. Sometimes it’s better to retire on top of your game than keep playing. One recalls “say hey” Willie Mays and his last sad years of professional baseball. The Russian Federation is grinding along and slowly effectively rolling over the east to west axis of attack in the Donbas. It is a matter of time, not if. If the major western powers truly want an end to the conflict they will ask for a meeting with Mr. Putin and fly to Moscow and ask him what he wants to end the fighting. Otherwise it will continue until the last viable Ukrainian fighting force is finished and this defeat of the west in detail will be done. Mr. Hersh, was disappointing in his last posting. It is a pity to watch him falter at this stage of his life and career. Thanks to Mr. Ritter for providing fact and color to the Hersh post.

Has any one checked. Is Seymour Hersh the author, or are we reading something Ai generated?

Hersh *was* a great journalist. How the mighty have fallen! Thank you, Scott, for clearing up the record.

Well done for checking the facts - that is proper investigative journalism, and whilst in my mind I thought Seymour Hersh had been 'got', your 'footnote' and further research has convinced me that you are absolutely right - Seymour Hersh has his own political bent to his recent reports, and has lost journalistic integrity through sloppiness, and bias, a bias that is unwarranted, and a wholly inaccurate portrayal of President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, who has been consistent from 1999 when he first publicly laid out his objectives for Russia, and immediately proceeded to try to make peaceful and prosperous overtures to Western leaders, and Eastern leaders alike, something he still does today. His desire for Multi-Polarity has never changed.

Thank you for the extra information regarding those pro-Western, 1990 political left-overs, it helps build a more detailed picture of Russian political life and reality, and also helps to show how Putin has stayed on message throughout his leadership, regardless of others. For me, Russia's struggle isn't just about Ukraine and the West, but about reversing US Hegemonic ideals of Unipolarity, which to me means they are fighting for all those who love their countries, their history, their sense of uniqueness, those who do not want to see 'Planet America' become a reality.

I am just an ordinary person with no foreign policy skills, but on more than one occasion I have read Seymour Hersh and thought to myself that his reporting made no sense given the context.

Scott - I have followed you since you were a commentator on NPR regarding Iraq WMD, and have never been disappointed. It is disappointing to learn that Sy Hersh has been so badly played, but it is very courageous of you to present this unfortunate episode frankly and honestly. Keep up the great work - marclbeau

Well done Scott!

I have noted that since Seymour Hersh did that excellent reporting of the blowing up of the Nord stream pipeline that he seems to have "changes sides" .

Thanks Scott for producing the evidence. Hersh must be under enormous pressure.

Hersh, like so many others has lost all credibility and even at his age "assuming that he still has his faculties" he shouldn't be issuing propaganda and lies but there you have it. If they ever open up the Epstein files a large part of the ruling classes will be exposed as the scum they are. "Nullius in verba magesterium!"

Hersh might have used the same sources as Gilbert Doctorow, who makes the same claims.

Yes, I had to unsubscribe from see more or less hirshey after his hatred of Russia was too much to ignore, or the lies stank too badly, and worse, he expected people to pay for that shit. What a loser....hath he become

Two points

Sy Hersh and those with Putin Derangement Syndrome (PDS) should be very careful what they wish for, the next Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces of Russia might not be a stickler like Putin is for International Rules & Covenants.

Secondly, not until Scott Ritter has been officially recognised/integrated as an Advisor in some capacity with the US Administration will I believe anything emanating from the US Government and Talking Heads various. Hell, the man's sitting down with Gen. Apti Alaudinov who was integral to Operation Sudzha Pipeline.

We've read that US Military Chief's change with the season (was it 8/9 since Gerasimov met Mildred Milley?) Whatever, I've observed Gerasimov for a few decades and you wouldn't want to be at the same poker-table with him. Barely see this guys lips move even when in consultation with his boss.

I reckon Sy Hersh's source is Gen. David H Betray-us

Well put, Scott. A necessary correction.

Sad that Hersh has lost all his journalistic integrity and credibility

On a long enough timeline . . . . . everything from Corporate America becomes diluted, even the sacrosanctity of Scottish whisky (no e, please). Since the corporate vultures have taken over the Independent distillers what you think you're drinking from aged casks, made from local malted hops and grains is unrecognisable to the trained pallet. 15 of the top 20 famous brands are made up of lesser substitute grains and mass produced under timelines it takes to decant a bottle of wine, not what it says on the label. Surprise, NOT!

The quality is so bad, as bad as a bottle of Jack Daniels which appears to be the most popular mixer for cocktails only.

My wife is Scottish. Thanks for the no e correction

Another female, Nicola Sturgeon, total crook is also Scottish 🤣😆

I look at what's going on all around us here in the West, a race to the bottom one of sound mind could patent it, bastardising everything, food (whisky, lol), healthcare, education, news, that if you were none the wiser you'd be forced to believe you're living in a parallel universe or another dimension.

If you combine what's occurring in the Land of the Free(loader), Europe included, The Monty Python Scriptwriters would have enough material to put on a different play every single night in every theatre, including fringe, in the US-UK and EU (Free Unelected Commissioners).

Sorry Mark I digress, which part of Scotland does she hail from? Mind you I'm only half Scottish, mother, where I developed, maybe born with, antagonistic and confrontational microaggressions/opinions, fleeing South to lurk in the shadows; the brains came from my father's race, a dangerous concoction.

Bravo Scott! and thank-you for all your diligence to confirm your opinions.

Thanks Scott for correcting the falsehoods. The quote never 'rang true': no Russian military commander is likely to make such comment to his adversary. The propaganda lies keep coming from the 'West'. Pathetic, disgraceful and disgusting.
